For most of the ski areas around the state, you have two basic options for New York ski lodging. A visiting skier can either stay on-site at the resort (if available), or decide to find lodging off-site. The primary advantage/disadvantage typically boils down to cost vs. convenience. There’s nothing like ski-in/out access, but you can also make your ski trip go further by saving money on lodging. Even with this basic trade-off, the choices for New York ski lodging are going to change depending on where you’re skiing. The ski resorts in New York tend to cluster in three general locations: The Catskills, Upstate New York, and the Buffalo area.

The Catskills

This ski area includes Belleayre, Windham Mountain, Catamount, and Hunter Mountain. Of these four, the only resort with on-site lodging is Hunter Mountain. Liftside Condominiums and the Kaatskill Mountain Club both provide condominiums for ski-in/out access to the slopes. The Pinnacle Condominiums is located on top of the Base Lodge, and has units that have two to six bedrooms. Liftside offers one to three bedroom options as well. For offsite lodging, each ski area has several nearby local hotels.

Nearby Windham Mountain lacks any on-site lodging, but it is located just outside of the town of Windham, NY. There, skiers will find economic options for lodging as well as condominiums that offer full kitchens. For larger parties, look to stay at Cuomo’s Cove, while couples looking for more secluded New York ski lodging will be pleased with Albergo Allegria.

Belleayre is only minutes from Fleischmanns, where there are several inns and B&B’s available. The River Run Bed and Breakfast has cozy rooms that range from $90 to $170 per night. Catamount has hotels off-site in nearby Hillsdale or Great Barrington. Examples range from the Days Inn in Great Barrington to the Swiss Hutte in Hillsdale. Off-site lodging for Hunter is located close in the town of Hunter. There is a variety of privately owned hotels and B&Bs from the modest and cozy Hunter Inn to the Victorian inspired Fairlawn B&B.

New York Ski Lodging near Buffalo

There are four major resorts in Western New York, all within an hour of either Buffalo or Erie, Pennsylvania. This means that for off-site lodging, skiers can always find economical motels near the city airports. For Kissing Bridge, Buffalo is only fifteen minutes away. Buffalo hotels include options as inexpensive as the Red Roof Inn and Super 8, or as upscale as the historic Roycroft. Peek ‘n Peak is only ten minutes from downtown Erie, Pennsylvania, so skiers there are advised to head across the border for lodging. On-site lodging is available at Peek ‘n Peak at the Inn at the Peak. Suites are available that can sleep up to six right on the slopes. Holiday Valley has condominiums on-site for larger parties or standard hotel rooms at the Inn at Holiday Valley. Both Holiday Valley and HoliMont Ski Area are both just outside of Ellicottville, so for those who don’t want to drive to and from Buffalo, off-site lodging is just minutes away.

Upstate New York Ski Lodging

Gore Mountain, Titus Mountain, and Whiteface are all located in the Adirondack Mountains. Titus is the farthest north, and has no on-site lodging. Thankfully, the city of Malone is only ten minutes north of the resort. In Malone, there are several options, from the EconoLodge or Holiday Inn Express to the Sunset Motel. For more cozy lodging, the Kilburn Manor is a cozy B&B only minutes from the slopes.

Gore Mountain has several on-site options for lodging. For a traditional hotel, Gore Mountain Lodge or the Inn on Gore Mountain have incredible rooms just steps from the entrance. Condominium lodging is available as well for larger parties. Off-site lodging is available in nearby North Creek. The Goose Pond B&B is a local favorite, offering cozy rooms and a hot breakfast every morning.

Whiteface Mountain has no lodging on-site, but the Inn at Whiteface is only feet from the resort entrance. Other off-site options include the Ledgerock at Whiteface, a cozy inn with two bedroom units and lodge suites available. Nearby Wilmington also has numerous options, including the Hungry Trout, a fishing resort, and the North Pole inn, a simple and comfortable motel.
