Oak Mountain Lodging
Oak Mountain is a popular ski area located in upper New York in the Adirondack Mountains. Just a short drive from Albany, Oak Mountain attracts a lot of weekend skiers as well as people touring the wide range of skiing that New York has to offer. Of course, unless you’re a local, when you hit Oak Mountain, you’re going to need someplace to stay. Not to worry. We’ve got the inside scoop on Oak Mountain lodging for you.
On the Property
One of the best ways to experience any ski area is to stay on-site. That lets you soak in the atmosphere of the resort and guarantees that you can be the first in queue for that fresh powder run in the mornings. While Oak Mountain doesn’t have anywhere to stay exactly on the property, there are two places that are located almost at the front gates.
The first is Melody Lodge. This beautiful little lodge combines fine dining with your choice of seven rooms. Each room but one has room for 2 or 3 visitors; The Cymbal Room has 2 queen beds, so can sleep up to four. Melody offers a complimentary continental breakfast each morning to get you started on your way to the slopes. The downstairs restaurant is amazing, and if you stay here, you should try it at least once. But be prepared to save room for their homemade banana cream pie or bread pudding.
The second Oak Mountain lodging property nearby is a single cabin that comes fully furnished and can sleep four comfortably. This cabin usually rents out quickly, so if you’re in the mood for a comfortable, quiet, and private cabin that’s only minutes from Oak Mountain, reserve early. The cabin has a fully equipped kitchen as well, which is great for saving money by preparing your own meals during your ski vacation.
Nearby Oak Mountain Lodging
The next closest Oak Mountain lodging is in Speculator, about five minutes from the ski area. Cedarhurst Motor Lodge and The Lake Pleasant Lodge are both solid options for skiers. Cedarhurst is your typical New England motel with clean rooms at a very affordable rate. Lake Pleasant Lodge is a bit more upscale lakefront property with gorgeous views. A fire pit outside by the gazebo makes for a nice quiet après ski where you’ll likely bump into other people from the mountain. Lake Pleasant Lodge has a variety of rooms, ranging from the Deluxe Suite that sleeps up to 8 (2 queen beds and 2 sleeper sofas) to a standard queen room that will fit 2 comfortably.
Other Oak Mountain lodging can be found in the nearby town of Piseco. It’s a longer drive, about fifteen minutes southwest of Oak Mountain along SR-8. There are a few options there, but the standout has to be the Irondequoit Inn. This Inn overlooks Piseco Lake and offers seven rooms and five 2-bedroom cabins. The cabins sleep six people comfortably and come with a fully-equipped kitchen and a porch with a spectacular view of the lake. The rooms normally sleep 2, but there are two efficiencies with a galley-style kitchen that sleep four with a pullout sofa.
